WHAT CAUSES UVEITIS?

Frequent causes of Uveitis are infection, injury, or an autoimmune or inflammatory disease. There may be a link between certain vaccines and Uveitis. In rare cases, the hepatitis B vaccine is shown to be a trigger for Uveitis. In even rarer cases, the human papillomavirus (HPV), diphtheria-pertussis-tetanus (DPT), flu shot, measles-mumps-rubella (MMR), and varicella vaccines have a connection to Uveitis. The likelihood of a vaccine triggering Uveitis may be increased when in combination with two vaccines administered at the same time.

WHAT IS UVEITIS?

Uveitis describes a group of inflammatory diseases that cause swelling of the eye, eye pain, redness, and vision loss. Uveitis typically affects the middle layer of the eye known as the uvea, which contains most of the eye’s blood vessels. The inflammation destroys eye tissue, and this is what leads to extreme injury.
