mctlaw completes the trademark registration for the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians’ insignia

Attorney Jeffrey Nelson

mctlaw recently completed the trademark registration for the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians’ insignia, or seal. It is now registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

The tribal seal is the official emblem of the UKB. The UKB places its seal on almost everything — including official correspondence, flags, T-shirts, tribal government vehicles, and consumer products. By registering its seal with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the Tribe is putting the world on legal notice that its seal belongs to the Tribe.

Attorney Sophie Asher was instrumental in the registration process. Now the Tribe’s seal will be protected from possible future infringement and the Tribe may now print its seal with the familiar Trademark Registered ®️ symbol.

“This is great news! Thank you, Sophie, Jeff, and the rest of the mctlaw staff, for securing our Tribal seal, which is a huge part of our identity, so this truly is a historic moment for us all,” says Assistant Chief Jeff Wacoche of the United Keetoowah Band Of Cherokee Indians in Oklahoma, “If you want to be the best, you need to surround yourself with the best! I’m ecstatic to be surrounded by each of you!”

The attorneys at mctlaw have extensive experience helping tribal leaders and businesses navigate the legal challenges facing Indian governments nationwide, including securing trademarks.
