Bio

Grant Godfrey brings decades of advocacy experience to the appellate law practice at mctlaw. He represents clients in federal and state courts nationwide, and works closely with trial teams to anticipate and prepare for issues on appeal. He is presently working on vaccine injury, medical product liability, and federal real property takings cases.

Mr. Godfrey is currently an elected council member in University Park, Maryland, where he serves as Mayor Pro Tem and chairs the Policy, Rules & Municipal Structure Committee. His public service reflects a career-long commitment to transparent and accountable government.

Before joining mctlaw, Mr. Godfrey served as Senior Program Director for Central & West Africa at the National Democratic Institute (NDI), based in Washington, D.C. In this role, he designed and led programs to develop and reform democratic governance processes across multiple African countries.

Previously, Mr. Godfrey practiced law in Austin, Texas, where he represented clients in environmental and administrative law cases, including lawsuits against federal agencies for violating federal statutes such as the Endangered Species Act and the Administrative Procedure Act (APA). He successfully litigated appeals and citizen suits in state and federal courts that held public entities accountable for unlawful actions, and his role often involved interpreting complex regulatory frameworks.

Mr. Godfrey earned his law degree from the University of Texas School of Law, focusing his studies on environmental and natural resource law. He is licensed to practice law by the State of Texas. Mr. Godfrey grew up on the Gulf Coast and overseas and served as a Peace Corps Volunteer. He is fluent in French and Portuguese.
